POSITION: The Digital Videographer & Content Specialist plays a key role in capturing the Mayor’s work and helping Angelenos understand what their city is doing for them. This mid-level role supports the Senior Director of Digital Communications and contributes to the day-to-day production of video, photography, and social media content that is timely, accurate, and community-centered.

The ideal candidate is a sharp, adaptable visual storyteller who knows how to turn real-world government work into clear, engaging, accessible content across social and web platforms. This person moves with urgency, stays organized, and is comfortable filming in fast-paced, on-the-ground environments.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Content Capture & Production

  • Capture video and photography at the Mayor’s events, community engagements, and City operations.

  • Produce short-form videos optimized for digital platforms and the City website.

  • Edit video and photo content with strong attention to pacing, narrative clarity, and accuracy.

  • Ensure all visuals align with the Mayor’s visual identity and accessibility standards.

Social Media & Publishing Support

  • Assist with posting, captioning, and packaging content across the Mayor’s digital platforms.

  • Support rapid-turnaround content needs, especially during high-priority events or breaking updates.

  • Help organize and maintain digital files, footage logs, and content archives.

Story Development & Research

  • Work with the Senior Director of Digital to identify high-impact story moments and visual opportunities.

  • Conduct research to support framing, accuracy, and context.

  • Help shape simple content arcs that make City initiatives easy to understand.

Workflow & Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Coordinate approvals with departments and internal teams to ensure accuracy and timely posting.

  • Work closely with Communications, Policy, and Field teams to ensure content accurately reflects City priorities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in video production, documentary-style shooting, journalism, digital content creation, or a related field.

  • Strong proficiency in filming.

  • Advanced skills in video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar) and photo editing (Lightroom, Photoshop).

  • A portfolio demonstrating strong narrative instincts, visual polish, and the ability to translate complex information into accessible stories.

  • Experience producing content for social platforms and understanding best practices for short-form video.

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with prominent figures, community partners, and City staff.

  • Comfort working in both planned and real-time, on-the-ground environments, sometimes with tight turnarounds or breaking developments.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Strong awareness of digital trends, platform updates, and evolving online communication norms.

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, or early mornings to support real-time coverage of the Mayor’s events, emergency updates, or time-sensitive announcements.

  • Must be able to travel to locations across Los Angeles for shoots, meetings, and on-site coverage; access to reliable transportation required.
