The Department has multiple Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic positions available.
Eligibility Note: These openings are available ONLY to current City employees currently employed as Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanics.
The selected candidate’s duties will include, but are not limited to:
Maintenance & Repairs: Repair and rebuild components and sub-assemblies on all construction equipment. This includes exchanging overhauled transmissions, replacing clutches, overhauling control valves, rebuilding hydraulic cylinders, and repairing engines.
Inspections: Perform BIT inspections as required by the California Highway Patrol, as well as scheduled critical safety item inspections.
Diagnostics & Testing: Operate equipment to move it to work locations and test operations to diagnose mechanical issues.
Parts & Research: Research maintenance and parts manuals for various Division equipment. Write store requisitions and collaborate with Supply Management System (SMS) personnel and vendors to locate required repair parts.
Data Entry: Update equipment repair data accurately in the automated Vehicle Management System.
