Description
The Airports Division acts as General Counsel to Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), its officers and employees, and the Board of Airport Commissioners (Board). LAWA is the governing body for Los Angeles International and Van Nuys General Aviation Airports. The Division is currently comprised of twenty (21) attorneys and eleven (11) support staff members. Attorneys in the Division handle a wide variety of litigation and transactional matters. This representation includes litigation and advice concerning contract and lease disputes, condemnation, employment-sworn and non-sworn, environmental, insurance, land use, noise, nuisance, personal injury, landlord-tenant disputes, First Amendment rights, and federal regulatory (FAA) matters.
Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position include opening, sorting, scanning, indexing and distributing mail; distributing incoming faxes; preparing labels and creating file folders; gathering documents to prepare cases for hearings; Maintain calendar for hearings & depositions; preparing form letters; scheduling medical appointments and ensuring medical reports are received in a timely manner; Prepare medical index/records; Open new claims and files; answering telephones; making copies; filing; preparing closed cases for records retention; and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
-Applicants must have completed the Legal Clerk II eligibility requirements: Pass a typing test of 45 wpm net with five (5) errors maximum and a spelling test with five (5) errors maximum.
-The City Attorney’s Office will not administer typing tests to candidates. Please see the attached “Typing Certification Requirements.”
-Current City Attorney employees will be allowed two (2) hours paid time off to attend testing and will be required to provide proof of attendance or test results.
-This position requires an accurate typist who is able to exercise independent judgment, can assume responsibility for the processing of files, and enjoys telephone contact with the public and other City departments. Applicants should know or be willing to learn the operation of personal computer equipment.
-The hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential. The Clerk may be required to lift items up to 25 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of legal procedures and terminology is desirable. Thorough familiarity with Microsoft Word is strongly preferred.
