Description
There is an immediate opening for a Deputy City Attorney in the Real Property Division of the Real Estate Branch for an attorney with experience handling real property transactions, including leasing, acquisitions, sales, and development.

As one of several Real Estate Branch teams, the Real Property Division provides legal advice and services to the Mayor, the City Council, and various City departments on a broad range of real estate matters, including those relating to the City’s ownership, acquisition, disposition, and use of real property. Such services include negotiating and drafting leases, purchase and sale agreements, licenses, right-of-entry permits, and easements. In addition, the Real Property Division litigates real estate disputes primarily relating to direct and inverse condemnation, property damage, unlawful detainer, landlord-tenant issues, and quiet title actions.

Duties and Responsibilities
The attorney assigned to this position will provide legal advice concerning real property matters; draft and negotiate real estate transactional documents, including leases, purchase and sale agreements, licenses, right-of-entry permits, and easements; and work collaboratively with City departments to consummate real estate transactions. The position includes advising City departments, staff, and officials on a broad range of real estate matters and appearing at various commission, committee, and City Council meetings. The selected attorney
will work closely with other attorneys and support staff in the Real Property Division and across the Office. Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
-Licensed to practice law in all courts in the State of California and the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
-Minimum three years of practice negotiating and drafting contracts.
-Experience with real estate law, including in the areas of leasing, acquisitions, sales, and development, is highly desired.
-Strong legal, analytical, written and oral communication, advocacy, and problem-solving skills.
