job description

The duties of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

        Work independently as a journeyperson performing routine inspection, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and calibrating, of various instruments, control and data acquisition systems and devices at the Los Angeles Filtration Plant and, distribution treatment facilities located at the Van Norman Complex and throughout the San Fernando Valley and North service territory.

        Work on programmable logic controller (PLC) and distributed control system (DCS).

        Investigate instrument control and data acquisition malfunctions, diagnose the sources of trouble, determine how to best repair problems, and perform such repairs. Repair instrument and control system devices at the component level.

        Repair, modify and fabricate parts and circuit boards. Implement improvements and perform construction to instrument, control and data acquisition systems or devices.

        Receive training and document maintenance, repair, and improvements on instrumentation, control and data acquisition systems and devices.

        Frequent handling of or working near hazardous water treatment chemicals, hazardous gases, and analyzer chemicals.

        Work near energized high voltage electrical equipment and extensive driving.

        Perform other related duties.

         

Skills, Knowledge, and Ability:

        Knowledge of Department driving rules, industrial safety practices, chemical handling practices, instrument shop practices, water and gas analysis instrumentation used in the water treatment industry, distributed control and data acquisition systems and process control devices. 

        Ability to use hand and power tools and install/repair electronic equipment and tubing systems.

        Ability to modify and fabricate parts, and calibrate industrial instrumentation using DC signal calibrators, pressure standards, and chemical standards.

        Ability to utilize computer interfaces to configure, calibrate and diagnose computerized instrumentation, control or data acquisition system.

        Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently.

        Ability to read blueprints and understand/follow detailed technical instructions.

        Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others.

The work location is at 13101 Sepulveda Blvd. Granada Hills, CA 91342.

Eligible candidate must currently be on a regular appointment to Instrument Mechanic (3843).

 

A valid California Class C Driver’s License is required and must be maintained during the course of employment. Overtime may be required. Attendance record may be evaluated.
