OVERVIEW

The Economic and Workforce Development Department (EWDD) is accepting applications to fill several Community and Administrative Support Worker III (CASW III) positions. The positions are assigned to support programs in the Economic Development Division or the Workforce Development Division. The CASW III positions are limited to 25 hours of work per week, and will not exceed 999 hours of work per service year.

The work locations for the positions are as follows:
  • Industrious Building – 444 Flower St. 14th Fl, Los Angeles, CA 90071
  • Boyle Heights YouthSource Center – 1600 E. 4th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90033
  • Watts YouthSource Center – 1773 E. Century Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90002
*Assignments will be determined by management, and provided with job offers.

The duties and responsibilities of these positions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Provides administrative support for various economic and workforce development programs. 
  • Assists with contract development and review, processing budget and monitoring reports to ensure contractor compliance. 
  • Provides information and referrals to other City departments and public agencies regarding business assistance information, processes and requirements.
  • Delivers or retrieves contract documents from other City departments.
  • Maintains files, assists with verifying eligibility for business owners or youth participants seeking participation in programs administered by the department.
  • Compiles data and tracks program-related performance metrics.
  • Monitors site visit activity and assists in the review of mandated documents and client files.
  • Conducts orientations, assists in facilitating trainings and tracks participant progress.
  • Assists with client enrollment, application completion, job placement and educational program enrollment as well as program-related events and outreach.
  • Develops templates and prepares written correspondences and reports regarding economic development or workforce development programs.
  • Provides clerical support which includes data entry, organizing, filing and photocopying.
  • The preferred candidate will possess a history that demonstrates the following knowledge, experience, and qualities:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a professional environment.
  • Professional experience with various social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for networking and promotional purposes.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Support the procurement of new service providers and consultants through the development and administration of Request for Proposals, Qualifications, or Quotes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possess a valid California Driver License and a good driving record.
  • Working knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Must be a high school graduate; some college is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working in a customer-service environment or office is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working as an employee of a city or county government is a plus.
  • Responsible, dependable, and possess a “Can-do” attitude. 
  • Excellent customer service skills and a desire to work with the public, the ability to understand and follow directions, and the ability to work under minimum supervision.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Graduation from a U.S. high school, G.E.D. or equivalent from a U.S. institution, or a California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE) certificate is required.
  • A two or four year college degree from an accredited U.S. or foreign institution may be substituted for the high school requirements.

SELECTION PROCESS
