DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Bindery Worker performs a variety of tasks in the finishing and preparation of printed materials.
Duties include: · Folding, gathering, counting, interleaving, numbering, and padding a wide range of printed materials. · Setting up and operating bindery equipment, such as wire stitching, small folding, paper drilling, round cornering, saddle gang-stitching, collating, perforating, punching, and related machines used in producing forms, books, booklets, pamphlets, and similar products. · Assembling multi-part forms with or without carbon paper interleaving. · Stripping booklets and pamphlets with gum tape and trimming edges. · Performing simple hand sewing of books under the supervision of a Bookbinder or Senior Bindery Worker. · Occasionally operating large folding machines after setup by other staff. · Assisting with large format printing, including loading media into printers, producing prints, cutting boards under operator guidance, laminating large format boards, sewing banners and adding grommets to banners and other media. · Performing other related duties as assigned, including training, adapting to technological changes, and meeting production deadlines.
REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Completion of a recognized three-year apprenticeship in bindery work; or attainment of journey level rank as a bindery worker; or five years of full-time paid experience in doing a variety of bindery tasks is required.
2. A valid California driver’s license may be required.
3. Physical Requirements: Strength to perform average lifting of up to 15 pounds and occasionally over 25 pounds; good hand and finger dexterity; good speaking and hearing ability; and good eyesight.
