Minimum Requirements
This position is open to City of Los Angeles employees who meet the following criteria:
- Must have current employment and regular appointment with the City of Los Angeles as
a Structural Engineer.
Summary of Duties
The Structural Engineer manages the Structural Engineering Group in the Environmental
Engineering Division, coordinating their work on engineering calculations, design drawings, and
specifications for capital improvement projects. This role involves communicating organizational
policy and project objectives to staff while ensuring the quality, completeness, and timeliness of
all work. The position supervises four Structural Engineering Associates and Structural Revit
Drafters, and is responsible for assigning and distributing work, quality control, setting standards, and providing specialized training.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
The Environmental Engineering Division is looking for a candidate who possesses the
following skills, knowledge, and abilities, including but not limited to:
- Skills in verbal and written communications
- Skills in optimizing systems and procedures
- Ability to supervise, manage, train, and motivate staff
- Ability to implement and enforce rules, procedures and standards
- Knowledge of structural engineering and building codes
- Knowledge of Revit/BIM
- Knowledge of standard design procedures and quality assurance / quality control
methods
