The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Information Technology Services Division Water Matrix Group is filling one Systems Administrator II position to support the Water Engineering & Technical Services (WETS) and/or the Water System Organization. The position will be located at JFB, 111 N. Hope St., Room 1372, Los Angeles, CA 90012. The available hours is 5/40 or 9/80 with a start time between 6:30 and 8:00am. The duties of the position includes, but are not limited, to the following: 

  • Develop, maintain, and support various operating systems, desktop applications, deployment and imaging processes and related documentation for use by the Water System Organization (WSO) operations and programming personnel; perform comparative software configuration analysis and long-range software update leveraging department automation and management tools such as Active Directory, Group Policy, PowerShell, VBScript and Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM).
  • Perform systems maintenance, security patching, performance monitoring, and break/fix troubleshooting for over 200Windows and Linux application, licensing, and database servers and operating systems in use by the Water System Organization supporting critical systems such as LIMS, Autodesk, Water Information Network (Pl), Water Outage Management System (OMS) and Lidar. Documents system architecture, maintenance, operations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures. 
  • Manage, plan, and coordinate with WSO personnel to perform periodic proprietary software updates to over 100 unique WSO applications; analyze, establish, and prepare guidelines for the use of scripting languages such as VBScript, Windows batch and VBScript; develop various MECM deployment packages for software distribution; devise and implement Least Privilege rules using department solutions such as Powerbroker and Windows compatibility mode.
  • Evaluate, test, implement, and troubleshoot Windows 10/11 operating system compatibility issues with over 100 unique software applications being administered and supported by the WSO that may require collaboration with software vendors; research operating system techniques and methods to extend the capabilities of computers to improve efficiency and compatibility with group applications; create and interface with VMWare vSphere web client virtual machines to test and analyze potential compatibility issues.
  • Participate in the Information Technology Infrastructure Library incident management, change management, release management and continuous service improvement programs to provide effective and efficient IT services throughout the department.
A valid California Driver's license is required and must be maintained during the course of employment. Overtime and some travel may be required. 

CANDIDATES WILL BE EVALUATED FOR THE FOLLOWING WORK RELATED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES. 
  • Knowledge of MECM and experience in creating MECM packages for software deployment;
  • Knowledge and experience in testing, supporting and configuring various operating systems and web browsers;
  • Knowledge and experience in resolving software incompatibility issues, software upgrade and rollouts;
  • Knowledge and experience in project management and developing reports;
  • Knowledge and experience in planning and designing Windows and VMWare computing environment which includes understanding of various hardware, software, storage and network inter-dependencies.;
  • Experience in managing Windows servers, performance tuning, and security patching;
  • Knowledge and experience in installation, configuration, deployment, procurement and troubleshooting PC hardware and software ;
  • Knowledge of ITIL with a focus on Incident, Problem, Change and Release Management;
  • Oral and written communication skills;
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills.
