The duties of the position may include, but are not limited to:

• Inspects the manufacture, assembly, installation, testing, and operation of steam and other boilers, unfired pressure vessels, and appurtenances for conformance to State laws and City ordinances.
• Checks materials and equipment for conformance to Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) design and safety specifications, state and local codes, and standards of professional engineering societies.
• Makes code inspections, qualifies welders and welders’ procedures, and issues permits to operate pressure vessels in the State and City of Los Angeles; interprets specifications for manufacturers and contractors.
• Makes special reports on inspection results, work progress, and other data.
• Orders the alteration or cessation of manufacturing or construction processes as necessary; witnesses acceptance and installation tests.
• Performs other related duties as required.

A valid California Driver’s License is required and must be maintained during the course of employment.

The normal work schedule will be either 9/80 or 5/40, per the Division’s needs. Overtime work, including emergency response duties, may require employee’s immediate on-site reporting before and after normal work hours, on scheduled days off, holidays or on weekends based on Division need and with minimal notice.

The work location for the positions is currently 1141 W. 2nd St., Los Angeles; however, the work location may be subject to relocation. The position is subject to field assignment and travel to support projects located throughout LADWP’s service territory. Travel obligations include on-system travel to the Owens Valley, McCullough, Nevada, and other similarly remote work locations.

In addition to indoor office environments, work conditions that the successful job candidate can expect to encounter include, but are not limited to, outdoor work locations subject to inclement weather, including high and low temperatures, rain and strong wind, confined spaces, elevated platforms, environments where respiratory protection and/or full body protective clothing is required, and environments containing electrical and other safety hazards. Other hazards may include working near potentially hazardous chemicals and hazardous environments, alongside personnel using “hot work” processes (welding), and monitoring radiographic testing safe distance barricades. Physical requirements for the position include, but are not limited to, working in confined spaces, climbing (stairs, scaffolding, ladders, underground vaults, etc.), ability to lift on average 15 pounds, balance for working at heights, vision to read fine print/numbers, and hearing for telephones/alarms.

Personal protective equipment and safety hazards associated with the position require inclusion in LADWP’s medical surveillance program.
