The Department of Water and Power has a City Transfer Opportunity for one (1) Laboratory Technician D position in the Water Quality Division, Water Quality Laboratory Operations – Chain of Custody group.

The work location will be at the Water Quality Laboratory/555 E. Walnut St., Pasadena, CA 91101. The work schedule will be 5/40 schedule with the working hours of 08:00AM – 05:30PM. A valid California Class C Driver’s License is required and must be maintained during the course of employment.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Performs cleaning and preparation of laboratory glassware, plasticware and sample containers for organic, inorganic and microbiological analyses.
  • Uses a dishwasher, a drying oven, or handwashing.
  • Follows applicable standard operating procedures, the Chemical Hygiene plan, and field ergonomic procedures.
  • Restocks washed labware in designated cabinets and ensures that the washroom is clean and organized.
  • Ensures that cleaning detergents and supplies are ordered and in stock.
  • Maintains sample container inventory and verifies that there is ample supply for sample collection.
  • Keeps accurate and complete records.
  • Neutralizes discarded samples, discards glass containers, including broken ones and discard completed samples.
  • Provides support for sample kit preparation and performs maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Assists in analyzing samples and prepares reports.
  • Follows Equal Employment Opportunity and Safety policies and performs other related duties.
  • May work overtime, weekends, and holidays to meet operational needs.
Skills, knowledge, abilities and other qualifications by interview or other means, as specified:
  • Ability to plan and organize work.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of office, laboratory, and field safety practices.
  • A valid California Class C Driver's License is required and must be maintained during the course of employment.
  • Eligible candidates must currently be on a regular appointment to Laboratory Technician, Class Code 7854.
