The office of Councilmember Tim McOsker is seeking an experienced, creative, and highly motivated Communications Deputy to join a fast-paced, collaborative team serving the communities of Council District 15. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer who is detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a dynamic public service environment. This position will assist the Communications Director, helping communicate the Councilmember's work and priorities across the 15th Council District, including the communities of Watts, Harbor Gateway, Harbor City, Wilmington, and San Pedro. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Drafting talking points, newsletters, social media content, and other communications materials. Staffing the Councilmember for media appearances and public events. Working closely with field and policy staff to identify communications opportunities and highlight district initiatives. Maintaining and updating the office website and other digital communications platforms. Taking photographs and capturing video content at community events. Assisting with graphic design, video editing, and other digital content creation. Qualifications: Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills. At least 2 years professional communications, public affairs, government, political, nonprofit, or related experience. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Familiarity with the communities of the 15th Council District is preferred but not required. Experience managing social media accounts and developing digital content is preferred. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud programs, particularly Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Photoshop, is a plus. Spanish-language proficiency is a plus. Valid CA Driver’s license is preferred to travel to and within the Council District. Writing samples and/or examples of digital media may be requested. This is a full-time position and will report to the City Hall office under the supervision of the Communications Director. This position is exempt from civil service. The selected candidate must be willing to work non-standard hours as needed, including evenings and weekends, and perform tasks outside of his or her primary work assignments as necessary. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
