The candidate of the 5 coded positions is required to perform but not limited to the following duties:
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and required safety equipment on various City-owned vehicles and equipment. Diagnose and perform general repairs, including tune-ups and repairs on engines, transmissions, differentials, cooling systems, heating and air conditioning systems. Provide towing services and emergency field repairs.
Research maintenance and parts manuals on the various equipment maintained by the Division. Writing store requisitions, collaborations with SMS personnel and vendors to locate needed repair parts.
Update equipment repair data in the automated Vehicle Management System.
The candidate of the 6 coded positions is required to perform but not limited to the following duties:
Diagnose and perform general repairs to diesel and alternative fueled Refuse Collection, Dead Animal, and Bulky Item vehicles and their auxiliary hydraulic systems and other related equipment. Repair/replace hydraulic cylinder piping, control valves, pumps, reservoirs, packer blades, hoppers, ejector panels, wiring, electrical controls, timing devices, and auxiliary engines.
Repair/replacement duties including tune-ups and repairs on gas and diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, cooling systems, heating and air conditioning systems, air valves, pumps, differentials, hydraulic and air brakes, steering gears, cab and chassis wiring, tires, and all related components. Provide towing services and emergency field repairs.
Rebuild gas/diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, steering gears, hydraulic valves, hydraulic pumps, starters, alternators, brake shoes, drums, and air compressors.

Perform preventative maintenance service. Fabricate and modify components using welding equipment. Respond to field service calls, which may require operation of a tow truck. Clean work area and tools, and maintain miscellaneous shop equipment. Locate and move vehicles to and from the shop area. Operate a variety of forklift type equipment. Update equipment repair data in the automated Vehicle Management System.
