The Department of Building & Safety has a transfer/paygrade opportunity for a Systems Programmer III with proven public cloud experience (Azure/AWS) who will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing enterprise scale solutions to support the department’s business strategy and goals.

In this dynamic position, you will be a lead member of a high performing team. Your analytical, technical and design skills will be essential to your successful performance in managing our extensive application. This position would support infrastructure (on-prem and cloud) for mission critical fund generating applications such as ePlanLA, PermitLA, Online Services, and Universal Cashiering II.

 


Job Description:

  • Performs on the ground day-to-day support strategies to ensure high availability of LADBS services
  • Implements quality engineering best practices to deliver services and solutions that meet stakeholders needs
  • Provides highly reliable services and support that ensure optimal infrastructure performance
  • Provides guidance to less experienced team members on defined procedures and may supervise/coordinate work of support individual contributors
  • Analyze service data to identify opportunities towards service improvement. Maintain a structured backlog of hardware upgrades/initiatives. Pursue backlog items in an agile manner, focusing rapid iteration and continuous delivery of hardware upgrades.
  • Linux engineering and administration of bare metal and virtual machines (VMWare)
  • Upgrade Linux, Windows, Oracle operating systems, storage devices and help to provision reusable Azure Infrastructure and to assist teams with their adoption.
  • Implementing Solutions with Monitoring and/or Automation Tools
  • Monitor a large application, integration environment and high-volume data movement across multiple IT systems, internal and external to DBS. Operate as a point of contact for outages that affect or are caused by application integration. Incident and problem management, coordinating resolution of data movement disruptions.
  • Capacity analysis and planning for a sizable application server environment with on prem and Azure platforms. Performance metering and tuning for application servers, database, monitors and alerts. Coordination and execution of changes within a complex testing environment
  • Adhere to project schedules, proactively resolve and or escalate issue to management

 

Abilities/Skills/Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of virtualization, preferably VMWare
  • Solid understanding of the storage protocols and applications: -NFS, the UNIX remote file sharing protocol -CIFS, the Windows NT remote file sharing protocol -SAN connectivity methodologies for storage systems
  • Hands-on development experience working with cloud technologies in Azure and/or AWS
  • Experience working in Microsoft Active Directory and Azure
  • Experience in Cloud platform implementation
  • Knowledge of Linux Storage IO stack
  • Linux/Windows systems knowledge including performance tools and tuning
  • Research, analyze, and recommend changes required for system growth
  • Instrumentation of storage management systems
  • Knowledge of redundant storage architecture
  • Distributed storage experience
  • Management and recovery of scaled storage systems
  • Experience with the Linux kernel and Linux software packaging
  • Performance analysis and debugging
  • Configuration management systems
  • Load balancing and reverse proxies
  • Network fundamentals DHCP, ARP, subnetting, routing, firewalls, IPv6
  • Internetworking and BGP
