Internship Program – Accounting 

Experience the inner workings of government finances and accounting processes through an internship with the City of Los Angeles. The City Controller's Office is offering limited paid internship opportunities in accounting. 

Work Description (Indicative of the type of work interns will be performing)

  • Account reconciliations

  • Accounts payable processing

  • Assist in financial statement preparation

  • Data entry (City's financial system and spreadsheets/database) 

  • Data gathering for audits

  • Query City’s financial systems for financial information 

Skills & Qualifications 
  • Student in a recognized 4 year college 

  • Minimum of 12 quarter units of core Accounting classes

  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment

  • Individuals who practice listening and learn by doing

  • Ability to analyze and simplify technical subject matter

  • Digital savviness; knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google's suite of services 

Pay and Benefits

  • $16.42 per hour

  • Compensated Time Off after 6 months and 500 hrs of work


Students participating in our internship program are required to commit a minimum of 12 hours per week for about the duration of one semester (15 weeks). Undergraduate level students are strongly encouraged to apply. Interns may be required to work onsite or remotely after training depending on work requirements. Interns will be expected to follow all COVID-19 health and safety protocols. The City requires all employees to be vaccinated.
