Job Title: Manager of Airport Concessions
Salary Range: $132,755 to $194, 121
Type of Appointment: Emergency Appointment (maximum 1 year)
An emergency appointment is not a regular appointment. It is a temporary appointment that may not exceed one year and must be terminated immediately when a regular appointment can be made from an eligible list. Job Description:
LAWA is a financially self-sufficient, proprietary department of the City of Los Angeles, which operates, maintains, and develops LAX, Van Nuys Airport (VNY) and Palmdale Landholdings. LAWA is controlled by a seven-member board, the Board of Airport Commissioners, which is appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Los Angeles City Council. In 2019, LAX set a record with more than 88.1 million passengers, making LAX the second busiest passenger airport in the United States and third-busiest airport in the world. After a pandemic related drop, LAX rebounded and was ranked the fifth busiest passenger airport in the world in 2021. LAX is currently ranked third among U.S. Airports for global trade by value year to date.
The Manager of Airport Concessions will report to the Deputy Executive Director for Commercial Development and will be responsible for all aspects of LAX’s concession revenue program. The concessions revenue program includes in terminal concessions (Duty Free, Food and Beverage, Retail, Services), advertising, and rental cars. Special projects may also be assigned.
This position will manage a team of six professionals implementing all aspects of concessions including development and monitoring. As of June 2022, the Concessions Division manages 27 concession agreements across nine terminals plus 20 rental car agreements. Pre-Covid 19 pandemic, the concessions program generated nearly $1B in gross sales and approximately $280M in revenue for LAWA annually.
The Manager of Airport Concessions will direct staff in the continued development and growth of LAX’s concessions program, supervise professional staff engaged in operating the program to increase economic development and expand concessions programs for LAWA through the application of sound management principles and techniques to build and maintain an effective team and fulfill sustainability and Inclusivity objectives.
In addition, the Manager of Airport Concessions interacts with local, state, and federal agencies as well as concessions operators and developers, community/civic organizations, and elected officials. Assignments are received in terms of general LAWA objectives and work is evaluated in terms of results achieved.
The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:
· At least four years’ experience managing concessions at an airport with at least 10 million annual passengers;
· Experience managing structured, formal, competitive Request for Proposals for concession operations;
· Experience promoting/managing/developing Airport Concession Disadvantage Business Enterprise (ACDBE) programs;
· Proven working knowledge of concessions contracting and tenant/property management techniques; and,
· A self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal, management, oral and written skills.
