Security Officer positions are open to all regular full time City of Los Angeles Security Officers. All applicants must be current City of Los Angeles Security Officer employees, been appointed from the security officer eligible list, and have successfully passed probation.
Security Officers within Los Angeles Airport Police are responsible for safeguarding City owned building, facilities, grounds, persons and property at The Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and are responsible for traffic control in the Central Terminal Area. Post assignments are typically rotated on a daily basis.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Officers are transported by City vehicle to various work locations. At locations, officers stand watch at a major entrance (guard post) to a restricted access area to ensure that only authorized persons or vehicles enter City premises. Officers at Post watch answers questions, registers persons entering and leaving, maintains log of visitors, phone calls, and other information; directs visitors to proper destinations, and explains rules limiting visitors on the premises; directs incoming and outgoing vehicular traffic in a safe manner; patrols City buildings, offices, yards, construction sites, and other areas during working and nighttime hours to protect against trespassing, assaults, vandalism, theft, property damage, fire, and other dangers to property; prevents loitering on premises and may remove objectionable persons. Officers are also trained to use baton and pepper spray on noncompliant individuals when necessary. Officers may also issue parking violations and assist directing traffic at checkpoints in cases of heightened security.
