LOCATION: City of Los Angeles - General Services Department, Standards Division


WORK SCHEDULE: This position offers a full-time schedule, Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday (depending upon operational need), 6:30am-3:00pm.  Employees may be required to work overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

HOURLY RATE/ANNUAL SALARY: $34.44 - $50.35 / $71,910.72 - $105,130.80
Annual salary is at the start of the pay range.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform materials testing in the field or laboratory as determined by operational need, such as but not limited to sampling and testing of asphalt, concrete, soils, steel, and related materials in accordance with established standardized methods (AASHTO, ASTM, Caltrans, ACI, etc.) to support the City's Pavement Preservation Program, Sewer Rehabilitation Program, and LAWA construction and maintenance.  Technicians will receive training for the sampling and testing methods to be performed.
- Submit findings in oral or written reports and take corrective actions when required in routine cases.
- Work assignments involve average lifting up to 35 pounds and occasionally assisted lifting up to 70 pounds.

REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
2. Possession of a valid California driver's license (Candidates may not be eligible for this position if their record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation such as DUI); and
3. a. Successful completion of any combination of two courses in engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, geology, math, or computer science, from an accredited college or university; or
    b. Two years of full-time paid experience performing materials testing and sampling (such as soils, aggregates, steel, asphalt concrete, construction materials, Portland concrete, and nuclear gauge compaction test) for a Federal, State or local government agency or private testing laboratory certified by any of the following Certification Agencies - AASHTO, ASTM, Caltrans, LADBS, ACI or CA ELAP.

NOTES:

2. Applicants that have completed courses in engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, geology, math, or computer science as stated in the Requirement 3a, must list course titles with the number of semester or quarter units, school attended and completion dates in Box #32 ("Special Course Required For This Examination") of the City Job Application.  Applicants who fail to provide this information on their application may not be considered further in this examination and their applications may not be processed.
