Minimum Experience Requirements:
The two (2) positions are open to current Structural Engineering Associate IIs within the City of Los Angeles who meet the following:
1. One (1) year of full-time paid, professional experience as a Structural Engineering Associate II, or equivalent, with the City of Los Angeles; and
2. Registration as a Professional Engineer with the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
All requirements must be met by the application deadline.
Summary of Duties:
The Structural Engineering Associate III may supervise a small team and/or serve as a Project Manager, Project Engineer, Construction Manager, or Construction Engineer.
This position oversees complex bridge and mobility improvement projects and requires strong technical knowledge and sound professional judgment. Duties include managing projects, preparing and reviewing plans and specifications, and coordinating work in the public right-of-way.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and cost estimates.
• Prepare pre-design reports, board documents, and other project reports and updates.
• Review plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E).
• Manage engineering consultants.
• Monitor project budgets and schedules.
• Coordinate with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and funding agencies.
• Assist with securing project funding.
• Review shop drawings and Request for Information (RFI).
• Negotiate change orders and conduct site visits.
• Coordinate with contractors and stakeholders during construction.
• Maintain data in the Uniform Project Reporting System (UPRS), e2020, and other project systems.
• Lead the team in the absence of the Civil Engineer.
